Bio
Emma Lundquist is a Waukesha-based freelance performer and teacher with a deep love for flute and a passion for piccolo. She is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she received her Master’s of Music in Flute Performance and Chamber Music. While at UWM, Mrs. Lundquist served as an active member in the Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra where she played all positions. She was also a member of the debut New Music Ensemble, which had its first performance in December 2022 as part of Present Music’s “Unsilent Night.” Mrs. Lundquist was also the flute studio’s teaching assistant from 2021-2023 where her duties included teaching flute lessons for minors and non-majors, assisting with flute ensemble and studio classes, and teaching the flute section of Woodwind Pedagogy for students majoring in Music Education. She was also tasked with leading flute sectionals for the University’s Youth Wind Ensemble and annual Middle School Honors Band Festival groups. As a performer, Mrs. Lundquist is comfortable performing with large ensembles to small chamber groups, opera pits and solo performances. She can easily perform standard works while embracing newly published works. She was a part of the 2022 Wisconsin premiere of Stacy Garrop’s Alpenglow for solo alto saxophone and tuba, as well as the 2019 world premiere of Kameron Ince’s Grand American Celebration with the UWM Wind Ensemble. In addition, she has gotten to play under the baton of notable conductors such as Ken David Masur and David Bloom. Her other accolades include having received a handful of honorable mentions for various concerto competitions and has performed in several masterclasses across her career. She was selected as a performer in the Karl Fritz Graber masterclass at the 2022 National Flute Association Convention held in Chicago. Other masterclasses she has participated in include Jennifer Gunn, Linda Chatterton, Mary Matthew Nortons, and Cobus du Toit. As well, she attended the Aria International Music Academy in 2018 held in South Hadley, Massachusetts. During this program she received weekly lessons and masterclasses with Judith Mendenhall, Christina Jennings, and John Thorne. Mrs. Lundquist also holds her Bachelor’s of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Evansville. Her teachers are Dr. Jennifer Clippert, Dr. Leanne Hampton, and Cara Dailey. As a teacher, Mrs. Lundquist has been a studio flute teacher for the White House of Music-Waukesha since fall of 2019. She is comfortable teaching beginning students just starting their musical journeys, along with advanced middle/high school students and adult students who want to find their love for flute again. Some of the successes of her students have included making Wisconsin’s State Honors Band, State level Solo & Ensemble, and various groups within the Milwaukee Symphony’s Youth Orchestra. Her personal teaching philosophy revolves around music being fun and not being afraid to try. Outside of teaching, she enjoys time with her husband, who teaches Trumpet for White House of Music, and two black cats. She is a lover of baking, video games and books in the Romantasy genres-especially if they have dragons and/or Fae!

It is frustrating to myself and the student when they are working on the songs over and over in the lesson instead of coming into their lessons prepared to show me what they can do and then move on to the next challenge in their books. Taking responsibility for their success helps everything to go smoother. What I Want My Students To KnowI want each of my students to know that I enjoy teaching and love working with them. Bio
I have been playing music since my grandpa taught me to read music on the piano at age 5. Since then I have studied the guitar, violin, viola, ukulele, piano, bass guitar, and voice. I have been involved in orchestras (both violin and viola), choirs, bands, and solo performances.
Music Education:
Carroll University - Music Business, Performance Violin major, Viola minor Teacher: Jamie Hofman Milwaukee Area Technical College - Occupational Music Violin , Guitar Major Teachers: Steven Freidenberg, Jack Grassel, Steve Peplin Other: Celtic MKE Irish fiddle (private lessons) Playing for Irish dancing Teacher: Heather Lewin
Teaching Experience:
I have been teaching for nearly 20 years. For 18 of those years I was an independent contractor at a store in Menomonee Falls. I am in my second year of teaching at White House of Music.
Styles Taught:
Classical, Irish, Rock, Be Bop, Blues
Methods Taught:
No matter the style, students are taught to read music notation before diving into a particular style, usually by learning from Essential Elements 2000. Students will also learn scales and basic theory. Methods: Classical: Suzuki books are used as a main book but are supplemented with other pieces songs and etudes. As the students advance, they learn separate classical solo pieces. Irish: Most Irish music is taught by ear, however, "The Irish Fiddle Book: The Art of Traditional Fiddle-playing" by Matt Cranitch is used for many tunes (as a supplement), techniques, and set pieces. I believe that it's important for today's students to be diverse style-wise which is why I like to introduce my students to styles they may not think they could play on a violin or viola. Also, it's fun!
