Bio
I grew up in Watertown and went to college for an Elementary Education degree. I taught school 21 years including 8 years on the Island of Guam. I’m single and love teaching my students in Studio 7 !
Teaching Experience:
I began my own lessons at the age of 5 and grew up in a home where music was very important! I have enjoyed over 40 years of being a piano teacher as my secondary “job” and loved every minute of it! My goal is for students to love music and I try hard through games, lessons and a relaxed atmosphere to accomplish that. I often say, “I’m not here to train anyone to perform at Carnegie. My goal is for kids to love music!!” I love seeing my students learn and thrive. It is the highlight of my week!!!
Methods Taught:
Alfred is my favorite, but I do include other book sets as well – depending on the student and their abilities. One lesson, with one of my students on the spectrum, they were not having the book! So, I took out the jar of rocks that one of my students brought me (and adds to it almost every week) and we created a song with rocks!!! Different sizes for different notes – quarter, half, whole. Then he wrote it out and played it. It was a great lesson!!!! The next week, we worked in his book. 🙂 I use stickers and games to help us learn. 30 minutes of “loving music class.”
