Bio

I have taught piano at White House of Music for 35 years. I enjoy bringing the gift of music to my students. I am retired from a career in medical coding and billing at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

Music Education:

I minored in music in college with a major in health sciences. Even though I do not technically have a music degree, I studied with a private teacher for 12 years and have done music at my church since high school, both accompanying the choir and also cantering.

Teaching Experience:

As I have listed above, I have taught at WHM for 35 years and privately several years before that.

Styles Taught:

I am comfortable with most musical styles but am not strong on jazz and improv. My background is classical but I enjoy playing some jazz and pop music.

Methods Taught:

I have used both the Faber and Alfred musical series books. I believe in a solid theory background so I and my students spend time each lesson in learning technical exercises and scales for finger flexibility and strength, theory worksheets and then move on to songs. I want them to have a comprehensive background in music, not just playing pieces. After all, theory is the backbone of music. If they have some favorite songs they would like to learn, I am happy to help them achieve this as long as we also learn the basics.
