Bio
I believe making music can influence character and personal well-being, and I am dedicated to helping students develop a relationship with the piano in a way that enriches their lives well beyond their lessons. Having lived with chronic illness for much of my life, I have developed a deep appreciation for perseverance, self-efficacy, and the importance of recognizing one’s intrinsic worth. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a particular interest in learning, development, cognition, and the relationships between our minds and bodies. That background influences everything from how I think about motivation and self-efficacy to why two students may need very different approaches to the same challenge. I am also certified as a pedagogue with Ultimate Music Theory Clubs, with specialized training in helping students develop music theory knowledge through the Read–Say–Write–Play approach, with special attention to visual, aural, and kinesthetic learning styles. My training extends through advanced rudiments aligned with Royal Conservatory of Music standards. Through my pedagogical certification training with the Dalcroze School of Music and Movement, I am studying how listening, improvisation, and physical experience can deepen musical understanding (set to be fully certified in Spring 2028). My continuing education through the Lister-Sink Institute focuses on injury-preventive keyboard technique, efficient whole-body coordination, and developing the physical awareness necessary for expressive playing (set to be fully certified in Spring 2028).
