I have taught at an annual rock camp that covers songwriting, instrument instruction, music theory, audio production, and performance.
While I am capable of doing whatever styles the student is interested in, my background lies in rock music. This ranges from indie to punk, as well as some metal and folk.

Hi there! Music has been a passion of mine since I got my start on acoustic guitar in 2001, mostly learning by ear. Since then I took music theory courses in high school, went to college for music, played a wide variety of styles in a band for 13 years, filled in on bass in some ensembles, played classical guitar in wedding ceremonies, and wrote music for short films.

I’ve provided private instruction on acoustic and electric guitar to beginners of varying ages for four years cumulatively.
I’ve taught rock, pop, and folk but have experience playing much more including classical, jazz, metal, reggae, and R&B.
Primarily I tailor my instruction to the student. No matter their age or experience level I enjoy fostering an interest and love for music through patient instruction while maintaining appropriate expectations. The student should tell me where they want to go with music and I’ll show them how to get there in a way they find most engaging!

I am a guitarist, composer, producer, live sound engineer and audio technician. I play guitar in the band Illusion of Fate, a heavy metal band! I also compose, mix and master all of our music. I have begun recording and producing music for others as well.
I studied music at Milwaukee Area Technical College, under Steve Peplin. I studied music theory and guitar, but changed to focus on Audio Production. I graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Audio Production
From my early days of college I would teach a few people, friends mostly. Ultimately, I gave it up to focus on school. I recently had decided to get back into it with White House of Music!
I mainly teach basic beginner guitar technique and typically simple pop songs. Although, my playing expertise is in metal guitar and love guiding students who want to learn how to shred.
I don’t use any specific method book consistently, whichever works for the student. Typically things like playing various chords, basic guitar maintenance, theory and composition.

“Rented violins while my daughter was still growing from them before buying (a full sized violin). Great experience all around! Thank you to John helping her to select her new beautiful instrument.”
“We stopped in the store on 3/20/17 to check out ukuleles for our daughter’s birthday. Mike showed us the instruments and all of their features and proceeded to play “Happy Birthday” to our daughter Ella. Mike was very helpful and made our experience at your store a very positive one so much so that we purchased a new Ukulele for Ella’s Birthday. She looks forward to showing Mike what she can play at his monthly class.”
